About the Play

Choosing a play for 7th and 8th grade students to perform can prove difficult.  Many plays performed by middle school students involve early adolescents playing adult roles and have adult themes that we may not want our students to perform.  There are so few plays written about teenage characters that Greg Changnon, Paideia junior high teacher and theater enthusiast, decided to write his own.

With this particular 8th grade cast in mind, Greg traveled to Bletchley Park outside of London to learn as much as he could about the history of code breaking during World War 2.  There he met real life code breakers who told him stories about their experiences at Bletchley and beyond.  He saw their living quarters where they were billeted in the surrounding towns. He learned how they lived, worked and survived the long, tumultuous years of the war, separated from their families, mourning losses of loved ones and sometimes afraid for their lives.

The result is Station X, a play written about and for teenagers.  It is a play about loyalty, commitment, cooperation and, and ultimately, victory.
